Why need Ultra Video Gallery
Video clip is everywhere in our world, you can take it by your home digital camera / computer camera / mobile phone, you can get it from your DVD or VCD disk, you can record your screen by screen recorder softwares to make learning courses, you can download movies from internet in various formats, you can find favorite videos on Youtube or other video community websites, now the problem is, how to share them on your DotNetNuke website?
Can you upload your videos to your server and provide a link for your visitors to download and play it? NO, most visitors are not interested to wait a few minutes to download an unknown file before watch it, can you use HTML OBJECT tag to embed a player plug-in on your webpage like most other video gallery products do? This works in same case, you can embed a Real Player to play real videos, embed a Window Media Player to play microsoft windows videos, but how do you know whether Real Player/Windows Media Player is installed on your clients' computer? If they are not installed your video content is broken.
Another solution is to use 3rd party video websites, you can upload your videos to Youtube and embed it back to your website, this is a good idea if you have only 1 or 2 videos, but it won’t work if you have numerous videos.
Is there a better solution? Yes, Ultra Video Gallery is the best choice to host videos in DotNetNuke.
What can Ultra Video Gallery do?
The
major purpose of UVG can be divided to 3 parts.
Allow site users to add new videos: in some case you add videos by your self, but in community websites you allow your site users to add videos, UVG works in both situations, the configuration module can be used to set which roles are allowed to add new items.
Encode uploaded videos for internet usage: like Youtube, UVG allows you to upload videos in any popular formats, below you can find an incomplete list, most of these formats are not designed for internet usage, so once you upload a video, UVG encode it to Flash Video(.flv) format or MP4 format with H264 encoding, both formats are specially designed for internet usage with a good balance of video quality and bandwidth cost.
