Architecture

One product, many use: UMG can be configured to run in 4 different modes. you can mentain the gallery by your self, you can let your site users to contribute their work, you can let your site users to have a persongal gallery, you can build a gallery based on a server directory... It helps as long as you work with photos/images on DotNetNuke.

Various presentations: UMG 6 comes with 15 presentations, all of them are available in Professional Edition while 3 of them are available in Standard Edition, you can switch to a fresh new interface by simply choosing a new presentation.

Slide show in flash: Adobe flash is adopted as the presentation layer in 12 presentations, our flash player offers the ability to quickly, smoothly browse and play your photos with an excellent user interface, just like playing pictures on your local computer.

Html presentations: The new SmoothGallery, Highslide and Mooflow presentation in UMG 6 are fully implemented by html+javascript.

Organize pictures by gallery and album: Photos/images are organized by albums and galleries, you can create unlimited albums in each gallery instance, an "album" could be a product category, a specific data range, a travel destination, a family member... etc.

Nested albums: An album can host sub album, you can use this feature to neatly organize your albums like a tree. Some presentations such as UMG Classic, ShadowViewer and Highslide fully support unlimited levels of nested albums.

Widely RSS support: If you have a RSS feed with media RSS extension, such as Flickr and Google Picasa, UMG 6 is able to subscribe to it and allows you to play these images in UMG 6's high qulity user interface.

Video support: Widescreenshowroom and ShadowViewer presentation in UMG 6 Professional Edition supports flv and H-264 encoded mp4 videos, they can play the video in a integrated compact player together with photos or images. ShadowViewer even supports flash games.

Permission control: UMG allows you to configure the module permission in different ways, for example, you can set which roles are able full access a gallery, you can set which roles are able to upload/approve/manage/view an album. you can set which roles are able to create personal galleries ... etc.

Comment and rate: Site visitors can post multiple comments and single rating for each image, The UMG-FreeContentList allows you to show images sorting by rating score so you can use it to create image campaign in community websites.

Thumbnail navigation support: A thumbnail in predefined resolution is created when upload a new photo/image, almost every html and flash presentations display the thumbnail navigation bar and allow your visitors to easily pick a picture to play.

Support various picture formats: UMG support pictures in jpeg/ tiff / png / bmp / gif formats. All images, thumbnails, high-res version images are saved in a directory under your portal root so don't cost your database space.

User interface effect

Professional look and feel: Our flash player in UMG have a well designed, compact user interface, many dedicated photographer become our clients because its professional look and fell makes them professional. Platform compatibility: There are various kinds of operation systems, browsers and flash plugins, UMG 6 is fully tested with all major platforms so you can expect all of your visitors can view your gallery properly.

Geotag support: If you take photos by iPhone or other cameras which include a GPS chip, UMG is able to read the information where you took it, if your camera doesn't include GPS chip, don't worry, UMG allows you to manually mark this point on Google maps.

Google maps integration: UMG is deeply integrated with Google maps, when view a photo you can see where the author took it on Google maps. If you are a frequent traveler or you are building a community website, you can use UMG-FreeContentList module to display a world map or specific area map with red markers of places which have photos, so your visitors may know: "Oh, you have been to Africa!" and click a marker to see photos you took in this area.

Flash uploader: To upload bulk images is very easy, just select multiple files in our flash uploader, click the Upload button, then you can go to have a cup of coffee and the flash uploader will upload all of them one by one.

Sell image prints: This feature is availble in UMG Professional Edition only, UMG-OrderPrints module allows you to sell images prints, your client can choose size of the print, color, border and shipping method when place an order.

User interface customization: You may have your own web design and business requirements, The classic player offers 60+ options to set colors, transparence, size and behaviors, you can fully customize it to meet your requirements, click the thumbnail at left and you can see there is an option to set the visual effect of almost every control in the flash player.

iPhone support: iPhone doesn't support flash plugin so it's impossible to see UMG flash viewers, but when you browse UMG with iPhone UMG will automatically switch to SmoothGallery presentation if it's configured to use flash presentation.

Photo calendar: UMG-PhotoCalendar module displays your photos in calendar grid, you can get an overview of all new pictures added in this month or other months, click a day or week to see pictures added in this day or week in UMG or lightbox window.

Share: Find a favorable photo? there are many ways to share it in UMG, you can use the "email a friend" feature to share it by email, or share the entire gallery on facebook, myspace, twitter...

Hi-res version download and sell: You can manually or configure UMG to automatically link the hi-res version of photos when upload it, your visitors can download the hi-res version when view a photo. Furthermore, you can enable the selling feature so users must pay before download the hi-res version.

Watermark protection: Secure your pictures from being easily copied, you can specify a png or jpeg picture as watermark so it is hard coded to your images when upload, you also can specify a run-time text watermark so it is not hard coded.

EXIF integration: UMG 6 is able to extract full EXIF information within your photo and display it inside the flash player or in a independent page.

Keyboard control: Use keyboard instead of your mouse to do the navigation. Back, Forward, Play, Stop, etc. This feature is available in many presentations and lightbox view.

New gallery wizard: A friendly wizard helps you to finish all basic steps when create new galleries, even a newbie can setup a gallery easily.

Rss subscription: Allow site visitors to subscribe to your gallery so they can get frequently updated contents, They can subscribe to a whole gallery or subscribe to specefic author only.

Music or narration support: UMG Classic and some other flash presentations support background music, you can upload an mp3 to tell a story or set a background mood.

Ajax support: Ajax is frequently used in this product, which brings you more smart and cool user interface effect.

Flexibility

Persoanl gallery mode: When run in personal gallery mode, users can create their own private albums and pictures, a unique url is offered to share one's work.

Profile integration mode: When run in profile integration mode, UMG read user id from querystring which is genreated by your profile module, and show this user's images in another gallery.

Community mode: The new community mode allows specific user roles to create their own albums and photos, users can access their own work only but all albums and photo are displayed together.

Amazon Simple Storage Service integration: UMG can be seamlessly integrated with Amazon S3, you can securely store your pictures in datacenters of amazon to save your disk space and bandwidth cost.

Monitor server directory: You can configure UMG to monitor a server directory, when there are new folders, UMG will create corresponding albums, where there are new image files, UMG will add them to corresponding album. With this feature you can update your gallery without logging to your website.

Edit, Adjust, Crop images online: If you want to edit, adjust, enhance or crop your images, normally you do it in photoshop before uploading to UMG, but this is no longer required in UMG 6, UMG allows you to use Snipshot or Picnik to edit a image online, all you have to do is a few mouse clicks in browser.

Tag support: You can use tags(keywords) to describe your photos/images, UMG-TagList module can be used to show tag cloud.

Easily adjust sort order: You can specify 2 fields for sorting purpose, a sorting field could be created date, taken date, file name and more.... You also can manually adjust the sort order by mouse drag & drop.

Fully localizable: UMG 6 is fully localizable, you can translate every text string to your own language, including texts in the flash player.

Approval process: You can turn on or off the approval process in an album, album moderators receives email notification when there are photos waiting for approval

High performance: UMG have very complicated business logic but high performance, we use a lot method to prevent frequent time-consuming operations, for example, the photo calendar module cache calendar output after initial access, so no need to access database again for further visitors if there is no new photos.

Auto resize: Your picture is too large? No need to resize them in Photoshop manually, the auto resize feature can resize all images to predefined resolution, furthermore, the hi-res version image can be linked for download or selling purpose.

Show/hide controls: In UMG Classic and some other presentations, you can show/hide almost all controls in the flash player to meet your business requirement.

Disk quota: Use Disk Quota feature to set the maximum photos an user can upload.

DNN Search support: UMG 6 supports DNN search interface, you can use the core search module to search a photo by any word in its description.

Dedicated search module: UMG also comes with a dedicated search module, you can search a picture by any charactor in its title and descrition, this module use ajax to show you number of results before clicking the search button.
